Who we are ...The non-profit Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA) was formed in the fall of 1991 to bring together journalists and public relations professionals involved in the automotive industry. Our membership has grown to more than 240 and includes print, broadcast and online journalists as well as media relations professionals who support the automotive cause. Our membership also includes engineers, classic-car buffs and racing enthusiasts. While many members are based and reside in the Chicago area, MAMA welcomes supporters from all parts of the country. Full membership ($80) is open to journalists who cover the auto industry. Affiliate membership ($130) is open to media relations professionals working in the automotive field. |
What we do ...
MAMA's primary purpose is to provide a forum in the Chicago area for newsworthy people, major issues, and new products in the auto industry. MAMA holds eight to 10 luncheon programs per year featuring guest speakers from car companies and other major newsmakers in the auto industry. More than 400 people attend the annual MAMA Media Preview Breakfast, kicking off events at the Chicago Auto Show each February. This event is co-sponsored by MAMA and the Chicago Automobile Trade Association, show producer. Each spring, MAMA holds the annual Spring Rally, held at the legendary Elkhart Lake's Road America. Nestled in the rolling hills and farmland of central Wisconsin, this world-famous track gives journalists the chance to sample high-octane performance vehicles from every major auto company doing business in the U.S. Driving loops on nearby public roads set the stage for testing cars in real-world conditions, while allowing members to test-drive MAMA Family Vehicle of the Year contenders. Additionally, journalists can put vehicles through their paces in a challenging off-road course, participate in hot-hatch autocrossing and enjoy go-karting fun. Top newsmakers attend this two-day event to share breaking information on the latest automotive offerings.
