The 2021 MAMA Rally is next week and we wanted to give you some basic vital information to prepare for the event.

This year we will be welcoming more than 70 media members to drive nearly 60 vehicles on track, street, off-road and autocross courses at and around Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI. Approximately 25 manufacturer and public relations professionals will be on hand to answer questions about their vehicles. Given the ratio of vehicles to journalists, we are requesting that manufacturer reps refrain from driving rally vehicles for the entirety of the event.

Here's a quick rundown of things you need to know:

Directions to the Osthoff from Milwaukee/Chicago

Travel north on I-43 to Hwy 57 north (Plymouth)

TRANSPORTATION

We do not have shuttles this year from the Osthoff to the track. Please use the car you drive to the event to get you to and from Road America. You can park in the infield across from the Tufte Center and Paddock Shop. If you are driving a rally vehicle, please get it to someone at Drive Shop or G. Schmitz when you arrive. If you need a ride back from the track, one of your fellow members will be happy to carpool.

NEW THIS YEAR

Four Miles of Fitness is a new event sponsored by KIA. When the track goes cold at the end of Day 1, members are encouraged to put on their running, walking, or biking gear and take a lap around the track under your own power. You can do the entire four miles or take a detour at turn five and cut it to just about two miles.

TRACK VIDEO - PLEASE WATCH

Many of our members are experienced at Road America, but it never hurts to get a refresher. Watch this video as Phil Mirenda from CGI Motorsports takes us on a lap around the track showing braking, turn in, apex, and track out points for every corner.

We will have a complete safety briefing that is mandatory for all members to attend before they can go out on the track. New rally attendees must ride with an experienced driver on a familiarization lap before they will be allowed to drive the track on their own.

Helmets are required on the track. Bring your own or you can borrow one from Road America at the staging area.

Dress Code

Long pants and closed toed shoes are required at the track.

Back at the Osthoff, cocktail hour starts at 6 p.m., with a dress code of business casual. Masks required indoors, except during dining and cocktail hours.

BEFORE YOU GO:

In our continuing efforts to save paper, we are limiting the items we print and distribute at the 2021 MAMA Rally. We have added several documents to the DropBox for your reference that you may want to review in advance.

WEATHER:

Weather in Wisconsin in mid-October can be anywhere from the mid-40s to the high-70s. Right now, it looks like we’ll have partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the high 60s to low 70s with a slight chance of rain. Be sure to check the forecast before you hit the road to Elkhart Lake to be sure that you are dressed appropriately. In case of rain, the track will remain open at the discretion of the track safety director. Please be careful!

WAIVERS:

We have sent all attendees a link to digital waivers and ask that you sign them before getting to the track. These are waivers of participation and need to be signed even if you don’t plan to be a passenger in or drive any of the vehicles. You will be held up at registration if these waivers are not signed prior to your arrival.

Road America has a separate waiver you can sign online by clicking here.

REMINDERS:

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory to participate in the event. If you did not upload your vaccine card when you registered, please bring it with you. You will not be allowed to attend the rally without this proof.

Please do not bring along friends, significant others, children, non-member photographers, etc. They will not be admitted, without exception. Only paid-in-full media members who have completed the pre-registration for the 2021 Rally will be admitted.

Also, be advised that Road America has a no-drone policy. So please don’t waste any space in your luggage bringing a drone. It will not be allowed on either day.

See you in a few days. Safe travels!
